As I entered the museum I was first of all let in for FREE! That’s right FREE! Cause I’m ME! And that’s special. (OK fine they let everyone in for free but let’s not talk about that) I came across my number 1 fan! That’s right, the first fan ever made. Or one of them…whatever. They let me ride the Police Motorcycle and the sirens go WEE WOO WEE WOO! Of course I wore a helmet. Safety first. I found some cosplays waiting for me and tried some new looks. Did some work under the hood of a truck. perhaps I can fill it with Mexicans that will dig me a pool.
I feel like it’s been forever since I posted here. I have so much to tell! I was fortunate to be a guest at the Mesa Az stop of the Fireball Run. This is a great event to help locate missing children across the country and raise awareness of child abduction. After that event I headed out to El Paso. I had a great time at EPCon (El Paso Comicon). I did kind of feel like an outcast. all my cosplay and artist peeps were in Vegas. But the El Paso locals always treat me well and make me feel at home. I did my cowgirl cosplay as well as Powergirl and Jill Valentine. Has a little snafu and forgot my disk and chain but a trip to Walmart and I got things going again. Then it was off to Corpus Christi for Realmscon. This was primarily an anime show but I was more than welcome and my table faced the bay. It was so beautiful. I helped judge the cosplay contest and had a few panels. I did cosplay safety and the business of cosplay.I have a little down time to get some new content out and costumes made and stuf and stuff and more stuff. Did I mention that I met Grumpy Cat? Yea that happened. I also wrote an article about it for Geek News Network. And with NYCC here in a few days , and my inability to attend this year, Webble will have my exclusive Binary cospaint card as well as my Powergirl card. I believe these cards are free. So now i’m gonna give ya’ll some links and pics and a vieo of me doing the Hustle (or some resemblance of it)
My new show is up and running from the good people at NonProductive! Me and my co-host Ken Smith bring you the deepest darkest from yours truly along with interviews and con info. I want your feedback to make this show a success. Look for weekly shows and let me know what questions you would like answered.
I have ALWAYS been a huge advocate for blood donation. I personally have a blood type that flies off of the shelf (cause I’m a diva like that). My niece was a premie and needed 9 blood transfusions in order to survive. One thing I really dig about WTF events is that they ALWAYS have a blood drive. And as long as I am able, I will donate. Phoenix Comicon also has a blood drive every year. I have donated as White Phoenix in the past (that is on video and posted on my youtube page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeHfAgftQYc&list=UUGpOakRd7Iyvb8SQpGUkRkQ ) but this time I donated as Jill Valentine. I hope my blood isn’t used for the G-Virus…but we all know it is. So do your part for the sake of humanity and find the HERO in YOU!!
This past weekend I was a guest at Coppercon in Mesa Arizona. Yup. Mesa. Almost Apache Junction. It was a small con. SMALL! I’m all for small but DAMN! So here we go.
I had the pleasure of doing a panel with the always smexy Lady Thor (Toni Darling) owner of Pop Fury and the Cosplay calendar. I’m in that BTW. our panel was on the business of cosplay. Cosplay is becoming huge and the sky is the limit. We talked about the different business practices and styles in which we run our individual businesses. I also did my fist cosplay safety panel. I feel that this is important especially for the very young cosplayers who might not know whats out there. I did this panel in my civies to keep the seriousness of this issue in tact. The lovely Victoria Page graced us with her presence as did Zenescope icon Raven Gregory. Mike Grell had an unfortunate illness and couldn’t attend so Raven was kind enough to fill in even on crutches. Fables artist Steve Leialoha was kind enough to look over my book Project:Shadows. He gave me some great insight. Thnx Steve! I had some great conversations with Liz Safian-Berube. She was the FIRST woman DC artist and the ONLY one through the Silver Age. I watched her do some drawing and use some different techniques. YOU GO GIRL! Wimmen’s Comix founder Trina Robbins is so feisty. I hope I can age that awesomely. I even had a few pics drawn of me. One was by Kip Mussat. He drew me as a Chibbie! This was my gift for cosplaying him. Yea I did that. Alfred Trujillo did a Grumpy Powergirl of me. CGC was there with Pop Culture Paradise and Mark Greenawalt were there too ( Mark did my Variant cover for issue 2 of Project:Shadows). BEST OF ALL!! I GOT TO WEAR THE SHARNADO HAT FROM SDCC!! Thnx Al Sparro for bringing youre beautiful wife with her awesomesauce Sharknado hat!!
I always appreciate a new con or a change in con ideas, however, this is a well established convention that decided to take a turn into the comicon realm. First; they charged too much. You can’t charge as much as a bigger show, you just can’t. Phoenix con costs that much. Next; the venue was…well.. a shithole. Sorry it was. And it was kind of in the ghetto. Panels were scheduled poorly and the show started the day AFTER schools in the area started. Why would you open the doors on a Friday morning when kids are at school? If this was maintained as a book convention (the original Coppercon) I could see being open during the day. But going for a comic/cosplay aspect means young people. They are IN SCHOOL.
So there you go. Quick Note: The WOD was there and I have a monthly column in that newspaper so check it out online and in print. Now here are some pics and links. Next up! Sabotencon!
Unfortunately I only had the opportunity to spend a few days there. However I have some important questions regarding this show. Help me out if you have the answers.
1) Why does God hate Free Hugs?
2) When will Sharknado 2 be out?
3) With over 100,000 people in attendance why such a shortage of cosplay?
4) $300 a day to park at the nearby mall? WTF? Reall?
5) Where can I get Chipotle Sofitas beside gaslamp?
6) What do you think of my new Pony cosplay that debuted?at
and finally 7) How can I get exhibitor space for next year?
If you can answer any of these questions I’d greatly appreciate it. I had such a good time and it’s always nice to see my con family. My fans are wonderful and I appreciate every one of you. Thanks again.
